The real price comparison
It isn't the warranty that's expensive.
The uncomfortable truth is more persuasive than a discount badge: one ordinary mechanical failure on a car can dwarf the monthly cost of cover. These figures are illustrative and need business sign-off.
Automatic gearbox
~£2,400
Rebuild or replacement, fitted
Turbocharger
~£1,850
Unit, oil feed and labour
Diesel particulate filter
~£1,400

~£1,100

Engine control unit

Even a ‘smaller’ repair can sting.
One £2,400 automatic gearbox ≈ nearly 6 years of Essential cover.
£2,400 ÷ £34.99 ≈ 68.6 months
Claims without the fairy tale
What we pay. What you pay. No magic.
Three real shapes of claim, including one where the customer still had to contribute. Better you see that here than discover it at the garage counter.
Turbocharger failure
Paid in full
£1,847
2019 BMW 320d · 68k miles · Premium
We pay £1,847
You pay £0
Warning light on the motorway, then a loss of power. Diagnosed on the Tuesday, authorised the same afternoon, paid straight to the garage.
Gearbox failure
Limit reached
£2,180
2017 VW Golf · 83k miles · Standard
We pay £1,500
You pay £680
A rebuild authorised the same week it was diagnosed. The plan limit is the only reason the customer contributed anything at all.
This is why the plan limit matters. Standard covers £1,500 of this repair; Premium would cover the full £2,180.
ECU failure
Paid in full
£912
2015 Nissan Qashqai · 96k miles · Essential
We pay £912
You pay £0
Non-start on a cold morning, traced to a failed engine control unit. Supplied, fitted and coded, settled directly with the garage.
Four plans · same covered components
Choose the size of repair bill you want us to absorb.
Every level covers the same 10,000+ components. The level sets how much we pay towards a single repair and the labour rate we cover, nothing else.

MOT vs warranty: what's the difference?
One is a legal roadworthiness test. The other pays for what breaks. People conflate them constantly.
Any VAT-registered garage in the UK, including a franchised dealer or the independent you already trust. The only rule is that you call us before work starts. We pay the garage directly wherever we can, so you are not funding the repair and waiting to be reimbursed.
It is the most we pay towards any single repair. It is not an annual budget and not an excess. All four levels cover the same components; a higher level raises the ceiling per claim and the labour rate we cover.
Cover starts on the date you choose, with a short initial period before you can claim so that pre-existing faults are not passed to us. The exact length is in the terms, and we tell you the date you are covered from before you pay.
No. We cover up to fifteen years and 150,000 miles at the start, and the car ageing past that afterwards does not end your policy. Older cars are precisely who this is for.
